Lavastoviglie_tazzeAs the laundry machine, the dishwasher can be regarded as an achievement of the family and, particularly, of women: it relieves of daily washing-up, making it possible to carry out other tasks.

Machine dishwashing is characterized by upper-middle temperatures and by alkaline pH detergents, not adequate for all crockery. In order to help you to choose the right way of washing, here are some guidelines:

  • stainless steel cutlery and pots, porcelain or ceramic dishes and cups are generally compatible with machine dishwashing;
  • among kitchen tools, some of them (spoons, whisks, knives) do not present any problems; instead plastic tools, plastic inserted in steel, etc. could be damaged, so it is recommended to read carefully the tool instructions;
  • glasses are generally suitable to be washed by machine; however some more delicate types could be damaged by alkaline pH;
  • non-stick pots and pans must be evaluated reading their instructions;
  • wooden spoons for cooking: if ordinary, we can recommend this way of washing because they are well-degreased by machine; if precious, this washing could be too strong, particularly the drying phase.

Machine dishwashing is not recommended for the following items:

  • plastic crockery, particularly if children’s. Recent scientific studies about endocrine disruptors recommend not to put them in dishwasher. In case of plastics only for adult use, at least it is recommended to arrange them away from the heating coil, in order to avoid plastics overheating: this is the main reason of release of chemicals;
  • painted-by-hand pottery could lose their decoration, so it is recommended washing-up by hand.
