Finestra_lavareSome people think that pure ammonia, diluted in water, is easy and comfortable to be used as a cleaner for windows, floors, shop windows, food showcases in restaurants…

Actually caution is recommended, because ammonia vapours are very corrosive to mucous membranes of respiratory system and to eyes (particularly to cornea); furthemore ammonia shows long-term toxicities to genes and to organs belonging to gastrointestinal apparatus.

Some traces could be released by some detergents, whose ingredients aminoacids contain a little ammonia into their molecules; human olfactory receptors are very sensitive even to small traces, so they feel them, but such little concentrations are not concerning at all. The main concern is associated with too frequent exposition to large surfaces wet by ammonia solutions, also because the more nasal receptors are exposed to this chemical, the more they lose their sensibility to it.

Bensos does not use ammonia as an ingredient. Sometimes it is possible to feel some traces released by natural aminoacids in alkaline formulations.
