Hard water is not harmful (see article about softened water), but it makes less efficient detergency, particularly in machine washing.
Household dishwashers are provided with internal water softeners, that removes lime form washing water on condition that periodically is reloaded with the specific salt. Lack of salt appears as little lime stains on cutlery and glasses.
Dishwasher code EQ is formulated to be used in couple with Rinse Aid code B. To optimize glasses cleaning, some dishwasher machines need the stronger Rinse Aid Extra code BX.
To avoid problems on glasses it is recommendend to prevent the accumulation of dirt into the machine, periodically maintaining it with Descaler code AE and cleaning filters. It should be noted that dishwasher gets soiled particularly when crockery are put inside without removing rough dirt; another common mistake is washing very dirt crockery with too less detergent. Paying attention to these issues, maintenance becomes a minor priority.
