Bianco_vestitoPerborate, percarbonate… why are they different? Are they both recommendable, as bleaching and hygienizing agents, or better are they someway concerning?

Perborate was in use for decades as a detergents ingredient or as powdered additive for laundry, as they thought it was safe. Recently, both UsEpa and European Commission showed that perborate and other alike chemicals, all containing Boron, are concerning for reproductive system health and they prescribed maximum concentrations not to be exceeded.

Percarbonate is a good replacement, as it fulfills the same purposes, but it shows no long-term toxicity; furthermore, no concerning elements are inside the molecule, only really safe chemicals. The only warning is about oxygen peroxide: it must not be touched without rubber gloves during washing, until it vanishes; on the other hand, this was a problem with perborate too.

Bensos doesn’t use any boron compounds as products ingredients. It proposes pure sodium percarbonate with the trading name Bleaching Powder for Laundry code D.
